Application for Military Skills Development System (MSDS) – 2027

BACKGROUND

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) offers the Military Skills Development System (MSDS), a two-year contract programme.

During the first year, recruits undergo initial military training followed by specialised functional training within their respective Services.
During the second year, members are deployed to various Units where they apply their knowledge, develop leadership qualities, and enhance practical skills in a professional military environment.

Applicants must:

Be a South African citizen (No dual citizenship)
Be 18–22 years old (Grade 12 applicants)
Be 18–26 years old for applicants with a 3-year tertiary qualification
Have an Admission Point Score (APS) of 18 and above, excluding Life Orientation
Have no criminal record or pending cases
Meet medical fitness requirements
Be willing to undergo drug testing, psychometric assessment, and medical evaluation
Have no visible tattoos when wearing uniform (subject to body inspection)
