LIBRARY ASSISTANT (X12 POSTS)
(One-Year Contract)

Salary: R193 359 per annum (Level 04) plus 37% in lieu of benefits
Location: Mulamula, Vleifontein, Tshaulu (Vhembe District), and Mampane, Botshabelo, Moopetse (Sekhukhune District)

Requirements:

• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 certificate from a recognized institution.
• A qualification at NQF Level 6 in Library and Information Studies or Library and Information Science (recognized by SAQA) will be an added advantage.
• A valid driver’s license (not required for persons with disabilities).
• Knowledge and Skills:
  • Sound understanding of library administration procedures, norms, and standards.
  • Computer and internet literacy.
  • Strong planning, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide general clerical and administrative support within the library.
• Assist with the computerization and cataloguing of library materials.
• Support library awareness campaigns and collection development initiatives.
• Prepare and process library materials for shelving.
• Assist the librarian in the daily management and operation of the library.
• Sort, shelve, and perform shelf reading of library materials according to classification.
• Assist with asset management and maintenance of library inventory.
• Provide assistance to library users in locating reading and research materials, and using computers for information purposes.
• Handle front-desk activities, including answering phone calls, emails, and assisting walk-in users.
• Manage book check-ins and check-outs at the circulation desk.
• Register new members and update user profiles.
