Join the Western Cape Government’s Department of Infrastructure as a Heavy Equipment Operator. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for transporting and testing road construction machinery, assisting artisans, and maintaining workshop standards.
âś… Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 10 (Junior Certificate or equivalent)
- At least 6 years of relevant experience
- Valid Code EC Driver’s License with Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
đź’ˇ Recommendations (Added Advantage):
- Experience operating:
- Forklifts
- Overhead cranes
- Truck-mounted cranes
đź§ Key Competencies:
- Expertise in loading/offloading and transporting both normal and abnormal road construction plant (e.g. graders, rollers, sweepers)
- Sound mechanical knowledge – ability to assist Artisans
- Verbal & written communication skills
- Good interpersonal and supervisory skills
- Problem-solving and planning abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Familiarity with occupational health and safety protocols
🎯 Core Responsibilities:
- Transport, load, and secure road construction equipment safely and as prescribed
- Supervise Trade Worker Aids
- Maintain equipment and monitor for wear, tear, and leakages
- Ensure timely servicing and testing of equipment at the test ground
- Provide emergency mechanical assistance (locally and at field offices)
