Job Description
As a Utility Vehicle Operator, you will ensure the safe and efficient operation of vehicles and support functions in line with operational standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities
- Operate utility vehicles safely and efficiently according to standards.
- Conduct daily pre-use inspections and basic vehicle maintenance.
- Clean and maintain the vehicle as scheduled.
- Report unexpected mechanical or technical issues promptly.
- Communicate operational challenges to the Shift/Team Supervisor.
- Assist with loading and offloading when required.
- Drive according to load requirements and safety guidelines, maintaining safe following distances.
- Complete assigned tasks and report progress to supervisors.
- Follow daily/weekly instructions and ensure a clear understanding of tasks.
- Apply approved work, safety, and driving procedures at all times.
- Report any injuries, unsafe acts, or hazardous conditions immediately.
- Participate in weekly safety meetings.
- Promote teamwork and support colleagues during operations.
- Assist engineering teams with vehicle maintenance where needed.
- Encourage safe working practices and identify unsafe behaviour.
- Submit accurate requisitions and compile detailed shift reports.
This position is graded at Band 9, reporting to the Engineering Foreman.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Grade 12
- Valid EB/Code 08 or Code 10 driver’s licence
- Valid Code C1 or C driver’s licence
- Public Driver’s Permit (PDP)
- Certified competent as a Utility Vehicle Operator
- Minimum of 3 years’ heavy-vehicle driving experience
- VTS-tested suitable grading
Skills and Knowledge:
- Safe driving techniques and situational awareness
- Strong understanding of traffic laws
- Ability to handle and transport hazardous materials (where applicable)
- Emergency response knowledge
- Good communication skills
