Responsibilities

This role covers a wide range of tasks involved in plant cultivation and seed production, including:

• Preparing, managing, and maintaining all stages of plant growth—from sowing and seedling care to transplanting, harvesting, and seed processing.
• Seed counting and packaging.
• Cleaning, soaking, washing, and drying seedling trays.
• Preparing and mixing seedling soil for trays and planting pots.
• Filling trays and pots with prepared seedling mix.
• Sowing seeds according to the sowing list.
• Moving seedling trays from the germination room to the seedling house after 72 hours and arranging them properly.
• Transporting filled pots into greenhouses and positioning them correctly.
• Connecting drippers to pots for irrigation.
• Moving seedlings from the seedling house to greenhouses or the field.
• Digging planting holes in the field and performing transplanting.
• Preparing trellising ropes and attaching them to cables and plants.
• Identifying flowers at the correct stage for emasculation and performing the process based on breeder guidelines.
• Conducting pollination and recording all crosses as instructed.
• Harvesting self-pollinated fruits selected by the breeder.
• Extracting, washing, and cleaning seeds after fermentation.
• Drying processed seeds.

Requirements

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) – Essential
• Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and repetitive hand motions.
• Ability to sit frequently; occasional standing and walking.
• Must be able to lift or move up to 10 pounds regularly.
• Good communication skills (talking and hearing).
• Must have strong visual abilities (close, distant, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment).
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
