General Workers (x2) – Job Opportunity

Overview
Golden Gate Highlands National Park (Gladstone Section) has two vacancies for General Workers in the Conservation Department, based at the Stables. The successful applicants will report to the Field Ranger Corporal.

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Std 10) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
- Proficiency in English (spoken, written, and read) plus one additional language.
- Physically fit (a fitness assessment will be conducted).
- Experience with chainsaws and brushcutters (attach certificates or proof of competency).
- Experience in horse riding, stable work, and saddling horses.
Added Advantages
- Experience in nature conservation activities (invasive plant removal, fire management, firebreak creation, wildfire suppression).
- Basic Firefighting Certificate.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Basic First Aid Certificate.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in identifying and reporting any horse-related issues to Stable Supervisors/Horse Handler.
- Support horse care activities including feeding, vaccinations, grooming, and general medical care.
- Maintain the Stables, paddocks, gardens, surrounding areas, and ensure cleanliness.
- Clean and maintain riding equipment (saddles, bridles, etc.).
- Support other stable staff during visitor outrides.
- Assist with fence construction and maintenance.
- Participate in wildfire suppression, prescribed burns, and firebreak preparation.
- Assist with soil erosion control and invasive plant management.
- Help with general infrastructure upkeep (buildings, hiking trails, signage).
- Maintain a high standard of Occupational Health and Safety.

- Official accommodation within the park will be provided.
- The position requires daily availability, including weekends and public holidays.
