Role Purpose
The Warehouse Assistant/Driver supports the smooth and efficient operation of the warehouse by managing the flow of goods from receipt to dispatch. This includes maintaining accuracy, organization, and safety while handling deliveries to and from suppliers and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving
- Determine the source of incoming shipments (branch, customer, or supplier) and the type of stock order (Customer Return, ICTO, Local, or International).
- Identify the intended destination (Richmond Park or another branch).
- Place received stock in the correct warehouse storage location.
- Report damaged, short, or excess stock to the supervisor and Procurement (for supplier deliveries).
- Record discrepancies accurately and submit all discrepancy documents to the Receiving Supervisor daily.
- Follow up on discrepancies to ensure resolution within five days and maintain stock accuracy.
Storage
- Physically store receipted stock in the correct warehouse location.
- Package items to prevent damage during storage and transport, in line with company policies and safety standards.
- Ensure safe loading and unloading of all products.
Order Fulfilment
- Remove damaged stock from shelves and escalate to stock control as per SOP.
- Confirm shipment destination and type of order (customer, branch, supplier, etc.).
- Plan daily tasks to meet delivery deadlines and collaborate with relevant teams.
Packaging
- Package items neatly and securely to prevent damage and maintain professional presentation.
- Label all loose items according to SOP.
Dispatch
- Coordinate deliveries to support business objectives.
- Manage transportation quotes to ensure on-time deliveries within budget.
- Scan all PODs from the previous day before close of business.
- Verify delivery details (address, contact person) and report errors before dispatch.
- Work closely with the dispatch controller to confirm required equipment is available.
Documentation
- Accurately record quantities and condition of items being picked; report discrepancies to the stock controller and supervisor.
- Ensure all documents follow company SOP and include signatures of both the issuing and receiving parties.
Health & Safety
- Adhere to and enforce warehouse and transport safety procedures.
- Conduct safety inspections and address potential hazards.
- Arrange staff training (forklift, reach truck, driver licensing, first aid, etc.).
- Perform vehicle inspections before and after trips.
- Operate company vehicles safely and legally.
Computer Literacy
- Intermediate knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Matric / NQF Level 4
- Minimum 2 years’ warehouse experience
- At least 2 years’ delivery driving experience
- Minimum 2 years in fleet and contract management
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s License
- Valid forklift license
