Position Overview
Starke Ayres, a leading African specialist and international supplier of premium vegetable, flower, and lawn seed varieties, is seeking a General Worker to join its Research division in Kempton Park. The role supports all stages of plant and seed production, contributing to the successful development of high-quality seed varieties.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with plant cultivation processes from seed sowing to harvesting
• Count, package, and process seeds
• Soak, wash, and dry seedling trays
• Prepare seedling mix and fill trays and planting pots
• Sow seeds according to approved sowing lists
• Move and organise seedling trays between germination rooms, seedling houses, greenhouses, and fields
• Connect irrigation drippers to planting pots
• Prepare planting holes and transplant seedlings in the field
• Identify flowers at the correct stage and perform emasculation as per breeding guidelines
• Carry out pollination in line with breeder instructions
• Harvest crossed and self-pollinated fruits as specified
• Extract, ferment, wash, and dry seeds
• Assist with greenhouse cleaning, trial harvesting, and other related research activities

Minimum Requirements

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) – essential
• Previous experience in the agricultural or research environment will be an advantage
