About the Production Learnership

ArcelorMittal South Africa is proud to offer Production Learnership opportunities to motivated individuals who hold a Grade 12 qualification and are eager to build a career in the steel manufacturing industry.

Successful candidates will be registered on a 36-month structured Learnership Programme, designed to train learners as Process Operators at the Vanderbijlpark plant. This programme combines theoretical (institutional) training with practical, on-the-job experience, ensuring learners develop both technical knowledge and hands-on operational skills.

Training is outcome-based and includes:

  • Structured classroom learning
  • Practical exposure within steel production environments
  • Continuous assessments and progress monitoring
  • Workplace mentorship and skills development

A formal Learner’s Agreement will apply for the duration of the programme.

What the Learnership Offers

Participants in the programme will receive a bursary that covers:

  • Institutional training costs
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Personal insurance
  • A monthly bursary allowance

While permanent employment after completion is not guaranteed, the learnership provides valuable industry-recognised experience, technical exposure, and a strong foundation for future career opportunities within manufacturing and heavy industry.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A complete Grade 12 certificate with:
    • English: minimum 45%
    • Mathematics: minimum 40%
      OR
    • Mathematics Literacy: minimum 50%

Additional Important Information

  • Preference will be given to South African youth under the age of 35
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination
