This opportunity is designed for unemployed youth who are passionate about engineering and eager to develop practical skills within one of the world’s leading precious metals mining groups.

This structured learnership combines theoretical training with hands-on workplace exposure, offering learners the opportunity to build a solid foundation toward a recognised artisan qualification while working in a real mining environment that prioritises safety, excellence, and responsible mining practices.


Purpose of the Learnership

The Learnership 18.2 – Plating aims to develop competent future artisans by equipping learners with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and workplace discipline required in an engineering and mining context. Successful learners will be trained in line with industry standards, safety regulations, and Sibanye-Stillwater’s values-driven culture.


Minimum Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following qualification criteria:

Boilermaker / Plating Stream:

  • N2 Mathematics
  • N2 Engineering Science
  • N2 Plating Structural Steel Drawings
  • N2 Platers Trade Theory

OR

National Certificate Vocational (NCV):

  • NCV Level 4 in:
    • Engineering and Related Design (all relevant trades), OR
    • Electrical Infrastructure Construction (Electrical & Instrumentation)
  • Minimum of 40% in all subjects

OR

Grade 12:

  • Mathematics
  • Physical Science
  • Engineering Graphics and Design (or relevant trade theory)
  • Minimum of 40% in all subjects

Additional Requirements

  • Medically fit to work in the designated operational area
  • Clear security screening record
  • Valid driver’s license (where applicable)
  • Willingness to work in a mining environment and comply with operational requirements

Advantageous Experience

  • Exposure to or experience in an engineering or technical environment will be an added advantage

Key Responsibilities

Programme Delivery & Development

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the learnership objectives and assigned tasks
  • Successfully complete all modules within the prescribed timeframe
  • Proactively raise concerns or challenges that may affect programme completion

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

  • Strictly adhere to all legal, safety, and operational requirements
  • Perform tasks according to approved standards, specifications, and training
  • Participate in SHE meetings and on-the-job risk assessments
  • Identify hazards and ensure correct use of prescribed personal protective equipment

Reporting & Communication

  • Compile accurate developmental progress reports
  • Communicate challenges, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities
  • Share ideas and recommendations that support continuous improvement

Stakeholder & Team Relations

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships across teams
  • Engage with stakeholders to gain operational and business context
  • Support collaboration and contribute to a positive workplace culture

People & Culture

  • Adhere to all mining standards, procedures, and company policies
  • Support team members and promote effective two-way communication
  • Actively contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and values-based work environment

ESG & Responsible Mining

  • Align with international responsible mining principles
  • Support Sibanye-Stillwater’s ESG commitments, including:
    • World Gold Council Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs)
    • Sustainability and ethical operational standards
