Job Purpose

To provide efficient, safe, and patient-centred porter services by transporting patients, equipment, and related items within the hospital environment, while upholding Batho Pele Principles, Patient Rights, and Occupational Health and Safety standards.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 / AET Level 5 to Grade 12 certificate
    (School report with official school stamp and log required)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a hospital or healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of:
    • Batho Pele Principles
    • Patient Rights Charter
    • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act
  • Good customer service skills
  • Ability to read and write
  • Self-driven, motivated, and able to work in a team
  • Willingness and ability to work shifts

Key Responsibilities

  • Escort patients safely between hospital departments
  • Transport and collect trolleys, wheelchairs, stretchers, and other equipment
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of patient equipment
  • Maintain equipment in good working condition
  • Escort deceased patients from wards to the mortuary with dignity and care
  • Uphold:
    • Ideal Hospital Framework and Realisation
    • Batho Pele Principles
    • Patient Rights and OHS Act
  • Assist in managing patient complaints and safety incidents
  • Perform additional duties as delegated by management

    (Available at Public Service Departments or www.dpsa.gov.za)
  • Recently updated comprehensive CV
