Introduction

We are seeking a dedicated, reliable, and detail-oriented Fuel Attendant to join our Transport Department at our East London site. This role is critical to the smooth operation of the fleet, ensuring that all vehicles are refuelled efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company procedures and safety regulations. The successful candidate will contribute directly to fleet availability, fuel control accuracy, and overall transport efficiency within a fast-paced FMCG environment.


Purpose of the Job

The primary purpose of the Fuel Attendant position is to ensure the accurate and safe refuelling of all company vehicles, while maintaining complete and reliable fuel records. The role also involves conducting routine vehicle inspections, monitoring fuel usage, managing bowser and pump operations, and assisting the Transport Administrator with fuel-related administrative duties. The Fuel Attendant plays a key role in ensuring operational continuity, safety compliance, and cost control.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

The successful incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Refuelling trucks and company vehicles according to daily operational schedules
  • Ensuring fuel is dispensed accurately and safely, following all safety procedures and standards
  • Managing and maintaining accurate fuel records, logs, and supporting documentation
  • Performing daily fuel dips and reconciling fuel usage against records
  • Monitoring fuel levels and reporting discrepancies, shortages, or irregularities
  • Operating, controlling, and maintaining fuel bowsers and pumps
  • Conducting refilling of vehicle and truck oil and water levels when required
  • Performing visual inspections of vehicles before and after refuelling
  • Identifying, reporting, and escalating vehicle defects or safety concerns to the relevant personnel
  • Maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and safety of the bowser, pump, and refuelling areas
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety requirements at all times
  • Assisting the Transport Administrator with fuel-related administration, reports, and documentation
  • Supporting transport operations to ensure vehicles are ready for dispatch without delays
  • Adhering to company policies, procedures, and code of conduct

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) qualification is essential
  • Strong numerical ability is required for accurate fuel measurement and record-keeping

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in a similar fuel attendant or fleet support role
  • Experience within the FMCG, logistics, or transport industry will be highly advantageous
  • A valid Code C1 driver’s licence will be an added advantage

Working Conditions

  • The role operates in a pressurised, fast-paced transport environment
  • This is a 6-day position, requiring flexibility and commitment
  • The incumbent will be required to work Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays as operationally required
  • Exposure to outdoor working conditions and fuel handling environments
