Role Summary
Pick n Pay is looking for a motivated Trainee Buyer to support our Household buying team in delivering a strong, customer-focused product offering. This role is ideal for a graduate who is passionate about retail, product trends, and commercial performance, and who is eager to learn the end-to-end buying process within a leading FMCG retailer.
The successful candidate will assist with sourcing, pricing, product administration, and performance analysis while gaining hands-on exposure to supplier management and category strategy.
Key Responsibilities
As a Trainee Buyer, you will:
- Support the buying team with product sourcing, range planning, and supplier communication
- Analyse sales, margin, and performance data to assist with informed buying decisions
- Manage product samples and coordinate product set-ups with internal teams
- Ensure all product information is accurate and up to date on business systems
- Monitor competitor activity, pricing, and market trends
- Collaborate closely with planning, supply chain, marketing, and merchandising teams
- Attend supplier meetings and support negotiations when required
- Assist with administrative and operational tasks linked to category management
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant Diploma or Degree (Retail Management, Business, or a related field)
- Strong interest in retail, FMCG, and product trends
- Proficiency in MS Excel and basic business systems
- Willingness to learn and grow within a fast-paced retail environment
