Midvaal Local Municipality is seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Machine Operator (Excavator) to help manage and maintain operations at our landfill sites and transfer stations. This role is ideal for a dedicated, hands-on professional with a passion for operating heavy-duty machinery and contributing to environmentally responsible waste management.
Minimum Requirements:
✔️ Grade 10 (Grade 12 will be an added advantage)
✔️ Valid Code 10 or 14 Driver’s License with PDP
✔️ Certified in Heavy-Duty Machinery Operation (Excavator, Landfill Compactor, Bulldozer) – NQF Level 2
✔️ At least 3 years’ experience operating an excavator (Experience in Local Government is a plus)
✔️ Strong communication & interpersonal skills
✔️ Able to demonstrate:

- Safe, efficient machinery handling
Key Responsibilities:
Operations:
🔹 Operate machines such as excavators, bulldozers, and landfill compactors
🔹 Spread and compact waste in line with Waste Management Licence standards
🔹 Assist in constructing and closing landfill cells
🔹 Maintain site access roads for smooth vehicle movement
🔹 Follow daily work orders from supervisors
Fleet Monitoring & Maintenance:
🔹 Conduct inspections and minor repairs
🔹 Monitor fluid levels (oil, coolant) for safe operation
🔹 Maintain records of services and repairs
Legislative Compliance & Safety:
🔹 Ensure compliance with safety regulations and compacting procedures
🔹 Coordinate with site teams for safe, efficient operations
🔹 Adhere to all occupational health and safety standards
General Duties:
🔹 Carry out other duties as directed by Supervisor or Foreman
