Position Level: Trainee Metro Police Officer
Remuneration: Monthly stipend as determined by the department (no fixed salary package)
Job Purpose:
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is recruiting entry-level police trainees to join its Metro Policing Training Programme. The department is looking for young, energetic, intelligent, and physically and mentally fit individuals who are passionate about community service and interested in building a career in policing.
Minimum Application Requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate (submit certified copy)
- Valid Code B driver’s licence (manual transmission) – applicants will undergo a departmental driving test
- Clean criminal record – applicants will be fingerprinted at their own cost
- No listing on the Sexual Offenders Register or history of dismissal from government due to misconduct
- South African citizenship and residency within the City of Tshwane (proof of residence and affidavit required if surname differs from that of the property owner)
- Age: Between 18 and 35 years
- Medically fit – submit a valid medical certificate confirming ability to perform strenuous activities
- Must pass a physical fitness assessment
- Must be willing to undergo and pass a psychometric evaluation
- Proficient in English – must pass a language assessment
- Must not be declared unfit to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000)
- No visible tattoos when wearing any uniform of the TMPD
- Must be willing to sign and adhere to the TMPD Code of Conduct

Key Responsibilities (Upon Completion of Training):
As fully qualified Metro Police Officers, candidates may be deployed in the following functional areas:
- Traffic law enforcement in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996)
- Enforcement of municipal by-laws and regulations
- Crime prevention activities within the City of Tshwane
