The Lion Match Company (Pty) Ltd, one of South Africa’s long-standing manufacturing organisations, invites applications for an Apprenticeship in Lithography Printing at its Rosslyn facility in Pretoria. This opportunity is aimed at young, motivated, and previously disadvantaged individuals who are passionate about developing a long-term career in the manufacturing and printing industry.
This apprenticeship forms part of Lion Match Products’ commitment to skills development, youth empowerment, and technical excellence within South Africa’s manufacturing sector. Successful candidates will gain valuable hands-on experience while working toward becoming qualified Professional Lithographers.
Purpose of the Apprenticeship
The primary objective of the Lithography Printing Apprenticeship is to provide structured workplace learning and practical exposure to NATED/NCV Printing students. The programme is designed to prepare apprentices for the relevant Trade Test in Lithography Printing, which, upon successful completion, will lead to formal certification as a Professional Lithographer.
Through this programme, apprentices will bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world industrial application while developing industry-relevant technical and professional skills.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the apprentice will be exposed to the full lithography printing process, including but not limited to:
- Participating in day-to-day lithography printing operations within a manufacturing environment
- Learning the setup, operation, and basic maintenance of lithographic printing machines
- Assisting with print preparation, plate handling, colour matching, and press adjustments
- Monitoring print quality to ensure outputs meet required standards and specifications
- Supporting production schedules and meeting output deadlines
- Adhering to workplace safety, health, and environmental policies at all times
- Maintaining cleanliness and order within the work area
- Completing required workplace learning logs, assessments, and training modules
- Working closely with supervisors, mentors, and production teams to enhance learning
- Demonstrating continuous improvement, discipline, and commitment to the trade
Training and Development
The apprenticeship combines practical on-the-job training with structured learning aligned to industry standards. Apprentices will:
- Receive hands-on exposure in a real manufacturing environment
- Gain experience aligned to Trade Test requirements
- Be mentored by skilled and qualified lithography professionals
- Develop both technical and workplace readiness skills
- Build a solid foundation for long-term career growth in printing and manufacturing
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this apprenticeship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 or Technical Matric (N3) with Mathematics and/or Physical Science
- Completion of TT1 – TT3 modules in Printing
- Be between 18 and 30 years of age
- South African citizen
- Willingness to work in a manufacturing and production environment
