Introduction:
Applications are now open for the role of Manager: Aviation Safety (Technical & SHE) at our Head Office in Bruma. Reporting to the Head of Aviation Safety, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective Safety Management System (SMS) at ATNS. This role focuses on providing assurance of aviation safety and overseeing the Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (SHE) aspects within the organization. The role includes managing all operations related to the SMS, including conducting safety assurance audits and investigations, particularly in cases where required systems or infrastructure are unavailable.

Job Description:

Aviation Safety Assurance:

  • Ensure the alignment of the Safety Management System with aviation safety regulations and relevant legislation.
  • Conduct assurance audits and safety investigations to ensure compliance with the safety legislative framework.
  • Develop and maintain an effective Safety Management System, providing assurance for aviation safety and SHE.
  • Monitor the safety performance of the entire ATM/CNS system and report compliance and performance status to relevant committees and executives.
  • Stay updated on technology infrastructure developments to plan future assurance activities effectively.
  • Provide input on safety policies and processes and continuously improve the ATNS safety management system.
  • Act as the primary contact for all aviation safety matters and prepare submissions to CARCOM for regulatory amendments.

Safety Health and Environment (SHE):

  • Ensure SHE organizational risks are identified and mitigated effectively.
  • Oversee OHS audits in compliance with relevant standards and legislation, reporting audit results and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Promote occupational health and safety awareness and provide basic OHS training to employees.
  • Ensure compliance with OHS processes and legislation across all ATNS operations.

Governance, Risk Management, Compliance & Reporting:

  • Implement a robust governance framework for the Aviation Safety unit.
  • Continuously monitor compliance with ATNS policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Prepare strategic-level reports for the Head of Aviation Safety and other stakeholders.

Stakeholder Relations Management:

  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders.
  • Participate in industry and regulatory forums and provide inputs to various planning groups.
  • Ensure effective collaboration with all relevant business functions within ATNS.

Financial Management:

  • Manage expenditures in line with business priorities and within approved financial parameters.
  • Provide budget inputs and ensure efficient utilization of financial resources.

People Management:

  • Manage staff according to HC policies and processes, ensuring proper onboarding and training.
  • Monitor staff performance and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure knowledge transfer and skill development within the team to support succession planning.

Minimum Requirements:

Formal Qualifications:

  • B.Tech/B.Eng Tech (Electrical Engineering).
  • Qualification in Management/Leadership is required.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Business Management, Aviation Management, Operations, or a related field is an advantage.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in technology infrastructure maintenance and safety management, with at least 3 years at a management level.

Introduction:
ATNS is offering 20 bursary opportunities for aspiring Air Traffic Services professionals. These bursaries are available to students interested in pursuing a career in air traffic management, with training provided at ATNS’s Aviation Training Academy (ATA) in Bonaero Park, Gauteng. Students will be allocated to specific disciplines (ATSO, TGO, AIMO, AMC) based on operational requirements.

Job Description:

  • Extensive training and exposure to various aspects of air traffic management over a specified period.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric certificate with the following passes:
    • Pure Maths (Level 4 / HG – D or SG C or above)
    • English (Level 4 / HG – D or SG C or above)
  • South African citizenship with a valid ID.
  • Medically fit and willing to undergo a medical assessment.
  • Must attach Grade 12 results to your application.
  • Willingness to relocate anywhere in the country.
  • Unemployed South African youth.
