π Key Responsibilities
Learner Transportation
- Safely drive a school bus along prescribed routes according to set schedules
- Pick up and drop off learners at designated stops
- Transport learners and staff on school-related trips and excursions
- Plan routes and stops for field trips when required
- Maintain discipline and ensure learner safety in accordance with school policies
General Worker & Facilities Support
- Provide general maintenance and facilities support across the school
- Conduct daily inspections to ensure facilities are safe and functional
- Perform basic maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing and repairs
- Report major maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager
- Maintain and store maintenance tools and equipment
- Assist with security, access control, and traffic management
- Carry out garden maintenance, including lawn care and flower beds
- Maintain gardening tools and monitor consumables
- Review daily work rosters and complete assigned duties
Health & Safety
- Conduct daily safety and operational checks on the vehicle
- Report mechanical faults and arrange repairs when necessary
- Refuel and service vehicles (oil, tyres, batteries)
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle at all times
- Participate in safety drills, first-aid training, and required meetings
- Ensure compliance with all road and safety regulations
Record Keeping
- Accurately complete mileage logs, passenger counts, and required reports
π Minimum Requirements
- Valid EC1 or C1 Driverβs Licence (Heavy motor vehicle up to 16 000kg)
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
- Grade 12 (Matric) qualification
- Previous experience driving a school bus or similar vehicle (advantageous)
- Ability to perform general worker and maintenance duties
- Fluency in English
- Strong communication skills with learners, parents, and staff
- Punctual, reliable, responsible, and trustworthy
- Willingness to work overtime when required
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Clear criminal record
