Pepkor Lifestyle is looking for a reliable and experienced Linehaul Driver to transport goods efficiently and safely between distribution centres and key hubs. This position plays a crucial role in supporting both PAXI deliveries and consumer goods transportation.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty vehicles to move freight between designated locations.
- Ensure on-time collection and delivery while adhering to traffic laws and company protocols.
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
- Secure cargo properly to avoid movement, loss, or damage during transit.
- Maintain accurate logs of mileage and driving hours.
- Follow all traffic and safety regulations and adhere to assigned routes.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and report any issues or delays promptly.
- Carry out basic vehicle maintenance and identify mechanical issues when necessary.
- Ensure customer satisfaction through proper handling and delivery of freight.
Minimum Requirements
1. Route & Vehicle Context
- Operate under the PLL Linehaul division, covering long-distance, high-volume delivery routes.
2. Essential Experience
- Truck Tractor Operation:
- Minimum of 3 years driving 6×4 truck tractors (Scania, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, or MAN).
- Trailer Handling:
- At least 3 years’ experience with either:
- 3-axle 14.5m dry or refrigerated (perishable) trailers, OR
- 6m x 12m tautliner trailers.
- At least 3 years’ experience with either:
3. Licensing & Compliance
- Valid Code 14 Driver’s License.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- Clear criminal record and clean driving history.
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID.
4. References
- At least three contactable references, subject to full verification.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Basic mechanical skills to identify and troubleshoot truck faults.
- Experience securing and handling various trailer types.
- Background in logistics or freight transportation operations.
Work Conditions
- Long-distance travel with overnight trips required.
- Shift work may include weekends, holidays, and night driving.
- Must be prepared for varied weather and road conditions.
