Job Purpose
South Rand District Hospital invites applications from suitably qualified and committed candidates for the position of Messenger within the Support Services Directorate. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective handling, collection, distribution, and control of documents, correspondence, files, and parcels within the hospital. This role is essential in ensuring smooth administrative operations and supporting quality service delivery in line with Batho Pele Principles, patient rights, and the Ideal Hospital Framework.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- Educational Qualification:
Grade 10 / AET Level 5 to Grade 12 certificate. Applicants must submit a school report or certificate bearing an official school stamp and log. - Experience:
A minimum of one (1) year relevant experience in a hospital or healthcare environment. - Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles
- Understanding of Patient Rights Charter
- Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act
- Knowledge of customer service principles
- Understanding of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) practices
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-driven, motivated, and reliable
- Willingness and ability to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays where required
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties, among others:
- Ensure timely collection, delivery, and distribution of correspondence, letters, parcels, files, circulars, and memos within and outside the hospital.
- Maintain accountability for documents and files, ensuring that deadlines for delivery and retrieval are strictly adhered to.
- Retrieve and return patient files and hospital records accurately and timeously to support clinical and administrative functions.
- Receive, record, and distribute correspondence according to hospital procedures.
- Provide messenger support to various hospital departments and units as required.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with the Ideal Hospital Framework, Batho Pele Principles, patient rights, and Infection Prevention and Control standards.
- Support hospital initiatives aimed at improving patient safety, service delivery, and complaint management.
- Report lost, damaged, or delayed correspondence and files immediately to the supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and hospital documents at all times.
- Perform any other messenger-related duties as delegated by management.
