General Workers (2 Positions) – Job Post

Job Overview:
Two vacancies are available in the Gladstone Section of Golden Gate Highlands National Park for General Workers within the Conservation Department, based at the Stables. Successful applicants will report directly to the Field Ranger Corporal.
Location:
Golden Gate Highlands National Park, Free State
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Std 10) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
- Proficiency in English (spoken, written, and read), plus an additional language
- Must be physically fit (a fitness test will be conducted)
- Chainsaw and brushcutter experience (certificate or competency must be attached)
- Experience in horse riding, stable work, and saddling horses
Added Advantages:
- Experience in nature conservation tasks such as invasive plant clearing, fire management, wildfire suppression, and firebreak implementation
- Basic Firefighting Certificate
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Understanding of laws, policies, procedures, and standards relevant to conservation
- Basic First Aid Certificate
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and report horse-related health issues to the Stable Supervisors or Horse Handler
- Assist with horse vaccinations, feeding, grooming, and medical care when required
- Perform general stable maintenance, including cleaning paddocks, gardens, and surrounding areas
- Clean and maintain riding equipment such as saddles and bridles
- Support staff with visitor outrides when necessary
- Assist in erecting and maintaining fences
- Take part in wildfire suppression, prescribed burns, and creating firebreaks
- Support soil erosion control and invasive plant management
- Maintain infrastructure such as buildings, hiking trails, and signage
- Uphold high Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards

- Official park accommodation will be provided
- The role requires availability on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays
