About the Role
Haul Truck Operators and Mine Operations Labourers play a critical role in EVR’s open-pit coal mining operations. The primary responsibility of this role is the safe operation of large haul trucks used to transport coal and rock material. In addition to equipment operation, employees provide operational support across the mine site.
This is a site-based, permanent position, with employees hired across all EVR mine sites in the Elk Valley.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be expected to:
- Operate haul trucks ranging from 180-ton to 400-ton capacity in an open-pit mining environment
- Work a 4×4 shift rotation consisting of 12-hour day and night shifts
- Participate in and strictly adhere to EVR’s health, safety, and environmental policies
- Perform pre-operational and post-operational safety inspections on equipment
- Complete daily equipment reports and promptly report maintenance or safety issues
- Assist with mining-related duties such as handling electrical cables, delivering supplies, and supporting autonomous haulage systems
- Communicate clearly and professionally with dispatch, supervisors, and other operators using two-way radios and onboard computer systems
- Safely climb equipment, perform repetitive tasks, and lift objects weighing up to 50 lb
- Work effectively in all weather conditions, including rain, fog, snow, and winter temperatures
Schedule and Work Environment
- Shift Pattern: 4 days on / 4 days off
- Shift Length: 12 hours (rotating days and nights)
- Environment: Open-pit mine, outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Compensation and Benefits

Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- High School Diploma, GED, or a minimum of five years related work experience
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with no learner restrictions
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and the safety of co-workers
- Ability to remain focused and productive during long shifts and in adverse weather conditions
- Good communication and teamwork skills
The following will be considered an advantage:
- Previous heavy equipment operation experience
- Industrial or mining experience
- Basic computer literacy
