Role Description

You will be responsible for operating heavy vehicles safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy vehicles safely and according to regulations.
• Follow work instructions and complete assigned tasks to required quality standards.
• Conduct pre-use daily inspections and ensure vehicle maintenance is completed as scheduled.
• Identify and report any technical issues requiring specialist support.
• Submit accurate shift reports and communicate task completion to your supervisor.
• Ensure vehicles remain roadworthy through regular inspections.
• Complete and manage all load-related documentation accurately.
• Participate in safety meetings and report safety concerns to the designated representative.
• Communicate operational issues to supervisors or team members.
• Assist engineering staff with vehicle-related maintenance when required.
• Maintain clear two-way communication with team members.

This position is graded at Band 9 and reports to the Engineering Foreman.

Minimum Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Valid EB/Code 08 licence
• Valid Code C1, C, EC1, or EC licence
• Code 10 licence (advantageous)
• Public Driver’s Permit (advantageous)

Experience & Skills

• 1–3 years’ experience operating heavy vehicles
• Strong knowledge of safe driving techniques and applicable traffic laws
• Ability to load and transport hazardous materials (where required)
• Emergency response awareness
• Good communication skills
