POST 28/295: HOUSEHOLD AID (X28 Posts)
Salary: R138 486 per annum
Location: Tygerberg Hospital

Requirements:

• Minimum: Basic literacy and numeracy skills
• Experience: Relevant cleaning experience in a healthcare environment
• Inherent requirements:
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks (e.g., lifting heavy equipment)
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, public holidays, night duty, and to rotate duties
• Competencies (Knowledge/Skills):
  • Ability to plan and organise cleaning work schedules
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of safety standards, including Infection Prevention and Control
  • Ability to conduct hospital hygiene audits
  • Understanding of hospital waste management, linen management, catering, and time management
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure

Key Duties:

• Perform cleaning tasks in clinical and general areas, including sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, and deep cleaning of toilets
• Manage waste disposal and maintain hygiene in designated areas
• Carry out terminal cleaning in specialised areas such as isolation rooms and ICUs
• Assist the supervisor with housekeeping tasks, including control of cleaning equipment, linen care, meal service to patients, and waste management
• Ensure cleaning equipment is cleaned after use and stored safely
• Use cleaning agents effectively and perform basic stock control
