🔍 Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for a Mine Overseer at Samancor WCM in the North West. The successful candidate will optimise underground mining operations, improve processes and equipment efficiency, exceed production targets, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and Minerals Act regulations.
🛡️ Key Responsibilities
1️⃣ Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)
- Identify and assess risk exposures (business, legal, equipment, environmental, etc.)
- Implement mitigation strategies and control measures
- Ensure compliance using the Integrated Management System (IMS)
- Drive SHEQ performance through toolbox talks and investigations
2️⃣ People Management
- Lead and manage the mining section effectively
- Maintain labour stability and meet BBBEE, HDSA & Female employment targets
- Monitor performance and link Individual Development Plans (IDPs) to results
- Manage discipline, absenteeism and overtime
- Conduct recruitment interviews and coach team members
3️⃣ Mining & Operational Management
- Assist in controlling and directing underground mining operations
- Contribute to Mine Strategic Plan (1–5 years)
- Control tactical plans (<1 year)
- Forecast and schedule mining & shutdown work
- Prepare operational plans, monitor costs, and report progress
- Lead engineering and mining teams
4️⃣ Maintenance & Asset Management
- Define service level agreements with maintenance teams
- Ensure site maintenance meets technical and legal standards
- Control overtime and maintenance costs
- Achieve production-rated capacity at minimum life cycle cost
5️⃣ Business & Growth
- Drive Operational Excellence and continuous improvement
- Contribute to overall company strategy
- Manage section costs to enhance shareholder value
🎓 Minimum Requirements
- Mine Overseer’s Certificate of Competency (Mining) or Mine Manager’s Certificate
- Degree or Diploma in Mining (advantageous)
- Trackless Board & Pillar Mining experience (advantageous)
- Minimum 6 years’ experience (2 years managerial)
- At least 4 years as a Blasting Certificate holder
- Minerals Act Regulation 2.14.1 appointment
