Enterprise Risk Management Internship

Introduction:
Mintek is offering an exciting career opportunity for an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Intern. The selected candidate will assist the SHEQ & ERM Department with the coordination and monitoring of the implementation of the ERM Framework and Policy, along with other risk-related activities.

Job Description:

Position: Enterprise Risk Management Internship
Reference: ERM/2024/08-01

Purpose:
The primary purpose of this internship is to provide practical work experience to recent graduates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting risk assessments to identify potential risks within Mintek.
  • Analyzing data to evaluate the likelihood and impact of risks.
  • Assisting in developing risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
  • Monitoring the implementation of risk mitigation measures.
  • Preparing reports on risk-related data for management.
  • Conducting research on industry best practices in risk management.
  • Supporting internal audits and risk management training programs.
  • Promoting risk awareness within the organization.

Job Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Understanding of ERM frameworks, policies, and risk governance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in ERM software solutions is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude and proactive mindset.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (NQF level 7) in Commerce, Finance & Accounting, or Risk Management.
  • Excellent academic record with a minimum 60% average.

Scientist/Engineer: Fuel Cell MEA Manufacturing R&D

Introduction:
Mintek seeks a skilled Scientist/Engineer to join our team focused on the development of fuel cell Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) for high-volume production. The ideal candidate will have experience in fuel cell and/or electrolyser catalyst and MEA development, with knowledge in electrochemistry, electrochemical process technology, or precious metals heterogeneous catalysis.

Job Description:

  • Develop methods for MEA preparation using roll-to-roll coating techniques.
  • Conduct research to create new ink formulations for high-volume MEA production.
  • Perform MEA and stack performance testing.
  • Undertake pilot production of MEA and fuel cell/electrolyser catalysts.
  • Ensure timely and budget-compliant project execution.
  • Adhere to SHEQ procedures for maximum technical efficiency.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team discussions.
  • Produce professional reports, papers, and presentations for local and international conferences.
  • Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • MSc/MEng in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in PEMFC/PEMWE electrocatalyst and MEA development.

Pyrometallurgy Engineer: Computational Materials Science Modelling

Introduction:
Mintek is seeking a Research Engineer within the Pyrometallurgy Division to conduct fundamental and applied research in the design and development of pyrometallurgical processes and technologies. The role focuses on computational materials science modeling to enhance understanding of thermophysical and thermochemical properties of slag systems.

Job Knowledge and Requirements:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in pyrometallurgy research and technology development.
  • Strong understanding of computational materials science modeling, thermochemistry, and reaction kinetics.
  • Experience with open-source computational materials science tools like LAMMPS or Quantum Espresso.
  • Knowledge of pyrometallurgical process software such as PyroSim™ or FactSage™ is an added advantage.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: BSc Eng/BEng in Engineering (Metallurgical/Chemical/Mechanical/Process/Materials Sciences).
  • Ideally: PhD in a related field with a focus on pyrometallurgy research and technology development.

Pyrometallurgy Senior Engineer: Technology Demonstration

Introduction:
Mintek has a vacancy for a Senior Engineer in the Pyrometallurgy Division, focusing on the design, development, and demonstration of pyrometallurgical processes and technologies. The role requires a deep understanding of pyrometallurgy fundamentals, thermochemical simulations, and pilot-scale technology demonstrations.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Lead and manage high-impact RDI programs, commercial projects, and contract research.
  • Provide technical leadership in planning and managing complex pilot-scale demonstration projects.
  • Draft and execute technical proposals for local and international funding.

Job Description:

  • Maintain employee master data from onboarding to exit.
  • Update the HR Information System with employee movements, promotions, and terminations.
  • Administer benefits, including pension, medical aid, and risk benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with internal audit requirements and statutory regulations.
  • Compile and submit HR admin reports as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B degree in Human Resources or a relevant field.
