🚢 Pipe Grab Operator – Transnet NPA (Permanent)

Reports To: Chief Mate
Purpose of the Role
Operate and maintain the grab crane, profile pipe, and associated deck dredge equipment to ensure efficient dredging operations and production output.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and dredge using grab crane and profile pipe systems.
- Conduct inspections of grab, profile pipe, and related equipment post-operation.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance under supervision.
- Support and monitor major equipment repairs.
- Carry out general maintenance and running repairs.
- Assist in deck operations and general shipboard duties.
- Ensure all safety and maintenance records are accurately completed.
- Maintain inventory of spares and equipment used in dredging operations.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science
- Valid Crane Operator Certificate
- Welding Certificate
- Certificate in Hand-Eye Coordination (passed)
- Advantageous: N1/N2 Mechanical Qualification
Required Competencies
Knowledge:
- Mechanical and hydraulic systems (basic level)
- Welding techniques and equipment maintenance
Skills:
- Strong hand-eye coordination
- Good communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English
- Ability to work independently, including at sea
- Judgement in assessing safe working conditions and upholding quality standards
