Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Pipeman to join our dynamic dredging team. You will be responsible for executing and monitoring the side trail dredging process—an essential operation for maintaining optimal production output. This role also includes managing a range of equipment maintenance and support activities critical to efficient and safe dredging operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Side Trail Pipe Management
   Operate and manage the side trail pipe system to ensure reduced cycle times and maximize dredging efficiency.
2. Equipment Maintenance
   • Monitor, repair, and calibrate side-trail and displacement systems.
   • Maintain dredge deck equipment and manage spares inventory for critical systems.
   • Ensure readiness and functionality of hopper equipment.
3. Dredging Accuracy & Output
   • Advise the Dredge Master on pipe positioning for optimal dredging accuracy and volume.
   • Ensure effective sediment reclamation by managing flow and coordinating with shore-based teams.
4. Reclaimed Material Oversight
   • Manage and monitor processes to avoid system blockages.
   • Oversee safe coupling of floating lines and rain bowing operations.
5. System-Wide Maintenance
   • Maintain pumps, winches, and all other pipeman-related equipment.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum: Matric (with Mathematics and Science)
• Advantageous:
  • N1/N2 in Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechanical background
• Experience: 3–5 years in a related marine or mechanical environment

• Technical Knowledge:
  • Mechanical systems, First Aid at Sea, Advanced Firefighting
  • Restricted Marine Radiotelephone Certification
  • Personal Survival Techniques, Personal Safety & Social Responsibility
• Skills:
  • Strong numeracy and basic computer literacy
  • Code 8 Driver’s License
  • Effective radio communication and minor at-sea repairs
  • Excellent communication, safety awareness, and leadership skills
