πŸ› οΈ Key Purpose of the Role

You will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, installation, and repair of utilities equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal plant performance. This includes ammonia and freon refrigeration systems, boilers, air compressors, and electrical reticulation β€” all in line with safety, quality, and statutory standards.


βœ… Minimum Requirements

  • N3 in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Refrigeration
  • Relevant Trade Test
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with ammonia and freon refrigeration systems
  • Solid knowledge of utilities equipment operation and maintenance
  • SAQCC Gas Registration
  • CAT B Ammonia certification

πŸ”© Duties & Responsibilities

Plant Inspections

  • Conduct daily inspections of plantrooms, condensers, valve stations, spiral freezers, chillers, boilers, and air compressors

Preventative Maintenance

  • Execute scheduled maintenance according to work orders and time allocations

Fault Finding & Repairs

  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration-related issues

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure strict compliance with PPE, OHS Act, SANS 10147, pressure vessel regulations, and ammonia handling standards

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Develop quick-fix routines, standard work instructions, and root cause analyses

Operations Support

  • Operate lifting machinery and maintenance equipment
  • Maintain high standards of quality, housekeeping, safety, and production

Training & Development

  • Support senior technicians
  • Assist with training apprentices and assistants

Emergency Readiness

  • Participate in emergency response training, including the buddy-buddy system

Ad-hoc Duties

  • Perform additional tasks as required by management
