🔧 Job Overview
The School of Electrical and Information Engineering is seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical Technician to join its Power Cluster, supporting the Genmin and High Voltage Laboratories. This role focuses on delivering hands-on technical support for teaching, research, and laboratory operations while ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
🛠 Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain high-voltage laboratory equipment
- Prepare labs for undergraduate and postgraduate practical sessions
- Perform wiring, testing, and fault finding on electrical systems
- Interpret and create circuit diagrams and as-built drawings
- Maintain and repair electrical instruments and equipment
- Support student projects, including circuit design and prototyping
- Assist with installation of systems such as solar panels
- Perform mechanical fabrication (cutting, welding, machining)
- Use CAD software (AutoCAD / SolidWorks) for design tasks
- Source suppliers, obtain quotations, and manage procurement processes
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards
- Maintain lab inventory, records, and administrative tasks
🎓 Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma or N6 in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Electrical Technician
Advantage:
- BTech / Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering
💡 Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of high-voltage equipment
- Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams
- Hands-on technical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with tools, instruments, and workshop practices
- Basic computer skills and CAD software experience
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Knowledge of safety practices in workshops and laboratories
